Julian is a tall strong bodied 2017 catcher, he has an average arm behind the plate, caught the ball well, defensively he could use some mechanical adjustments and cleanup, as his foot work and arm stroke were both inconsistent, resulting in pop times that ranged between 2.24 and 2.47 seconds during his practice session, and between 2.21 and 2.57 during the game. Moving through the ball at catch will help, so will a jump rope, and the speed bag, for hand quickness. During BP, Julian featured a quick swing, slightly angled swing path, at times he cast his arms away from body on ball away, showed some gap power. During the game Julian smoked two drive singles into left field and swung through some off speed pitches. What I saw was some timing inconsistencies, that can be corrected with a solid batting practice/cage plan. Julian would serve himself and team well but really focusing this fall on becoming a better defender.
