Zachary Smits is a big strong, versatile infielder who can also throw from the mound, his 6 foot 2 inch frame gives him athletic versatility.  During batting practice Zachary barreled up five of eight pitches he saw, and carried his good swings into the game stinging four balls in five at-bats, showing good gap power and hints of future homer power. In the field he showed average actions and footwork, and use of his hands with an above average and accurate arm.  Zachary runs out everything hard and is the player who will turn shallow singles into hustle doubles.  His energy is infectious and it was clear that he was a favorite of his teammates.  He's got leader potential and talent to go with it.  On the bump his fastball ranged from 74 - 78 mph. He could gain more velocity with more work on pitching. There's a lot of athletic potential there.
