Each year I track how many former BAWS participants are selected and in some years there are obviously more than others. Over the existence of BAWS, there have been 242 players (though I could have missed one here and there over the years) drafted/signed by MLB who participated at Bay Area World Series.
We've seen the first pick overall be one of those players, Mark Appel. We've seen late rounders, we've seen 39 of them make it to the Big Leagues. Now four more players will have their opportunity to start their journey, if they choose to sign. Congrats to these four players:
1B Ruben Ibarra - San Jose State (St. Francis SCP) - Reds, 4th round, BAWS 2016
OF Gavin Tonkel - Heritage HS - Phillies, 9th round, BAWS 2018
OF Jace Avina - Spanish Springs HS (NV) - Brewers, 14th round, BAWS 2020
RHP Gabe Emmett - Folsom Lake College (Vista del Lago HS) - Dodgers, 19th round, BAWS 2017
