Nikolai is a 6'1" lean athletic catcher, who displayed above average quickness and actions behind the plate during his defensive session. He also displayed an above average arm and excellent ball blocking abilities. His pop times range from 1.97 to 2.26. During the game he had a 2.17 strike to second base. He has a good set up, with soft hands, and with a little cleanup of his footwork he could become a solid catch and throw guy (at the college level). During his BP session Nikolai barreled up three of eight pitches he saw, he had a slight body drift with his hands and lower half through the zone and had a lift to the ball. His swing path could use a cleanup, flatten it out and incorporate the lower half into the turn. As Nikolai's defense improve's he will catch the eye of next level coaches.  He's a grinder on the field, leaves every game dripping sweat and with filthy uniform.  He's easy to like!
