John is a tall lean athletic catcher who featured above average quickness and arm strength behind the plate his pop times ranged between 1.93 and 2.08 during his defensive workout.  His game pop times ranged between 2.32 and 2.39. This discrepancy in times is a result of John sitting back and catching the ball then moving during the game as opposed to moving to the ball just as it's in the hitting zone. He, like most young catchers traded a large L, but he makes up for the indirect path to second base with a big arm.  If/when he cleans that up the pop times will drop down into the 1.8's someday. John's BP session was solid he featured quick hands and showed the ability to drive the ball, his swing path is a little steep at time and could use some flattening out. He had great in games wings belting a long home run to left look for John to be a solid NCAA player.
