2017 BAWS MOP Martorella selected in 5th round by Padres

Each year I track how many former BAWS participants are selected and in some years there are obviously more than others. Over the existence of BAWS, there have been nearly 250 players (though I could have missed one here and there over the years) drafted/signed by MLB who participated at Bay Area World Series.

We've seen the first pick overall be one of those players, Mark Appel (who reached MLB this year!). We've seen late rounders, ultimately we've seen 44 of them make it to the Big Leagues. This year more players will have their opportunity to start their journey, if they choose to sign.

2022 MLB Draft

1B Nathan Martorella - Cal (Salinas HS) - Padres, 5th round, BAWS 2017 (was named Most Outstanding Player)

RHP Devereaux Harrison - Long Beach State (Vacaville HS) - Blue Jays, 9th round, BAWS 2018
